Okay, so I definitely felt that this needed to be written. I've had several people comment that they can't believe that Meredith would leave her children, and a part of me agrees. However, when I sat down to start this story, I thought about all of the stories in which Meredith leaves and doesn't tell Derek that she's pregnant. She raises their kid alone for however many years and then there's some.. reunion and all that jazz. You've read them, I've read them, we've all read them. I'm not knocking those stories - I've read some really, really good ones. I've also read some really good ones that involve Derek raising a kid by himself and then meeting Meredith, etc. I wanted to do something original. Obviously, the anatomical jazz limits what you can do to leave Derek alone with Meredith's kid and not have Meredith die or have amnesia. So, The Fear You Won't Fall was born. I'm not trying to pardon Meredith or say that her behavior was acceptable because it most definitely was not. She's trying now, though. She and Derek are working on the give and take, and everyone is growing along the way. Anyway, that's all I have to say for now. Read and review :)
